Hello all my followers. I have divided my blog posts out to several different blogs based on posting topics. It did not seem right to have a blog post about Homeschooling one day and then the next day have a blog post about being a Survivor of Abuse all on the same blog.

My first Water Color Marker piece. My husband sees letters and an intestine in the winding road, I see a standing person.

I drew this at a time in my life where much of my efforts seemed to fold back on themselves.  I think in life, most of us, would like a straight path towards our goal.   Wouldn’t that be nice!  For me life has not been a straight path, it certainly was not at the time I drew this.  Life was very complicated and moving forward towards my goals seemed almost impossible.

After hearing your suggestions I simplified the piece. The more complex version is still in this post, below. I am still not completely happy with the plume. I might try to draw that differently in the future.

God’s Refining Process??

This is God’s Refining Process… That is what they love to say.

If this is Gods Refining Process then it is a bit like standing too close to the sun and hoping you refine before you burn up. Follow that up with tears (blue water drops), pain (red spikes) and confusion (purple squiggles), and you have a bit of an idea of what it is like.

No, I would rather feel these are the consequences of a pedophiles horrid acts combined with their great ability to lie and deceive. I can not equate God at all with the horrible things pedophiles do, and the horrible side effects.

Artist Loft Watercolor Dual Tip Markers

My husband gave me these fun water color markers as a gift. What a fun gift it is! Coloring with water color markers is a little like making your own paint by numbers coloring pages. I can not find the exact markers I own online. I have the basic 12 marker set, I miss the color purple and wonder why there are two yellows and two reds that are not much different. When I order my next set of markers I think I will order these LETRASET Pastel Tones Pro Marker. I use a water brush similar to this Pentel Arts Aquash Water Brush. The markers and water brush combined make a well contained enjoyable watercolor experience. Though this is rather more like using markers that can be faded and shaded, that is the main advantage of the water color markers.

I was retraumatized after reporting my fathers incest and sexual abuse of me to his church leaders. The why’s and how’s and specifics of that I will not go into here, it is too big of a topic.

Pitt Artists Markers

After using Crayola Markers I decided to take the artistic leap of buying myself some “real” art supplies. My first markers purchase was Pitt Artist Faber-Castell markers, the pastel set. I was not disappointed! You can tell the difference in quality from everyday markers. The paint brush style tip is very versatile and able to accommodate small details and large areas. Cheep markers can wear down and corrupt the pieces paper. Pitt Markers have a much smoother feel to them when using them. They seem to have no dimension to their color, cheep markers seem to lay a kind of goo on the page compared to the pit markers. The Pitt Marker color seems to soak right into the paper as though it is a dye. I have really enjoyed the pastel set, now I am anxious for more color options and want to buy more Pitt Markers.

Value

This piece Value was made about the middle of March. This was after I had a significant social conflict with people I was closely associated with. I felt they showed great disrespect and disregard for me as a survivor. This moment was the last straw in many ways, because I had been limping along trying to look normal for far too long after being re-traumatized by reporting my father to his church. This was the moment I totally closed in and stopped doodling and blogging for about two months.

Old Crayola Pieces

Last year sometime after realizing I was doodling all the time on random pieces of paper I decided to doodle in my art book. I started out doodling with markers and colored pens I bought for my kids school supplies. I remember being excited when I bought my own set of Crayola Fine Tip Markers because the very fine tips enabled me to put a lot more detail in my doodles.

Look! I grew a fantasy flower maiden with my pen.

I put my pen to paper and decided to be loose and open with drawing a person like I am open and loose with drawing my doodles. I had no predetermined idea of what I wanted to draw. It was fun to see this Flower Maiden emerge a few lines at a time.

Delicious Gelly Roll Pens

I got some Gelly Roll pens back in the middle of Feb. I was delighted with the pens so smooth and colorful, I loved the feel of making curvy lines with them, and the paint-like little dots. In this “Pen Test Image” I am using every color of my new Gelly rolls and my new Pitt Artist Faber-Castell markers, the pastel set.

Trapped Being Me – quick doodle

Trapped being me, someone they cannot accept. They do not know what is behind my public smile.  I have to strain to keep it in.  I have a big personality, and it wants to explode out.  But… I am afraid of their uneducated judgments more.

Energy

I stopped doodling for a while, like I stopped blogging. I felt too trapped inside, too invalid really. I decided it was time I started doodling again and drew this. It was very relaxing for me.

Stormy Seas and Faith

PTSD symptoms are symptoms of abuse or trauma. All too often the symptoms of PTSD are misunderstood to be evidence of a “sinner” or evidence of a persons poor moral character. But that is just not so….

I wonder how much pain and suffering could be alleviated if people just learned to have compassion for the symptoms of PTSD.

What judgmental people don’t realize is that judging a person suffering with PTSD is adding to the problem.

A Wart on Your Hand – An Analogy to Sexual Abuse

Do you know what it is like having a wart on your hand?

I had one on the palm of my hand when I was 12/13, when my father was sexually abusing me.

For a 12 to 13 year old a wart on the hand is a disease waiting to spread. Everything I touched had the potential to spread a wart to someone else. Everyone I touched had the potential to get a wart from me. Everyone who had warts had the potential to blame their warts on me.

I have found that doodling calms my nerves and anxiety. Doodling is art therapy for me. I now carry around colored pens in my purse and a small sketch book. Now I can break out and sketch when I want.

I don’ think there is any short cuts to healing. Sometime when we get past the pain of healing we sum up the healing in phrases that sound good, and simple. It seems we think to ourselves, if I could just impart this new gained wisdom to the next survivor down the path then they will not have to wade through the pain I just went to to understand this. But that would be a short cut.

I believe there is really only one path towards healing and that is one of love, caring and understanding.

So I tried to think of a new name (Mia Thriver) that encompassed my focus. I love this new name, I love the focus on Thriving.
